During the conference the following questions will be addressed:
Which new promising techniques and methodologies are to be explored in order to study heterogeneous terrestrial systems at scales from pores to catchments? What are the major scientific problems to solve?
How can we apply our understanding of pedogenesis and patterns of soil distribution quantitatively, including our insights into long-term matter and energy fluxes within landscapes?
How to change hydrologic soil modeling approaches from descriptive to predictive with respect to solute travel-times and residence times across spatial scales?
What can we learn from intensive monitoring of state variables and fluxes, as has been established during the last decade? How can we extend the network globally?
What are the most promising synergies among the involved disciplines?
How do we value the ecosystem services that are derived from the soil’s ecological infrastructure and the soil’s natural capital stocks?
What have been the achievements since the 1st Conference 2008?
